Hollywood's Finest Fashion Production took place at the Clarion Hotel in Ft. Washington, Maryland, on Sunday, December 11.
B. Bonilla, one of Dr. Thomas' adult students, played the character of James Dean, his second favorite actor/role model after Bruce Lee,
when he participated in this production. Norman Cole, founder of Notorious Runway Productions, produced this latest in
his series of shows. Notorious Runway Productions "is a multi-level community involvement fashion and entertainment company" and "has
established itself as a community grass roots organization through its affiliation with small businesses, neighborhood commissions,
civic groups and other community organizations." The organization has provided scholarships to students at Howard University, Morgan State
University, and the Eastern Shore University. The Ramblers are pleased that Mr. Bonilla has had the opportunity to be involved with an
organization that provides him with experience in his pursuit toward a professional acting career and that brings something positive

Black Belt Advancements
Saturday, September 17, was a memorable occasion for the Rambler family. After being judged by a panel of distinguished
black belts--Grandmaster Chris Edwards, Professor Bruce Goodwin, Grandmaster El Sloan, and Shihan Steve Tolson--W. Brogsdsale
and K. Hinton graduated from first brown to black belts and were presented their traditional black belt gui tops (white with

on the belts, in both English and Korean. According to tradition, the new black belts will be on probation for a year, during
which they will be expected to teach and fulfill other requirements to show they are truly worthy of this honor and the respect
that accompanies it. Dr. Thomas will look to them to be dedicated in their roles as instructors and to demonstrate their leadership
before they become official black belts. The Rambler students and their families are proud of Mr. Hinton and Ms. Brogsdale,
offer their congratulations for passing an impressive and exhausting test, and look to them to lead well and honorably, as

FIRST Robotics Competition: 2011 Washington DC Regional
J. Martinez and G. Mckeown (see photos below) were part of Eleanor Roosevelt High School (ERHS) Team 53 that
competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition. They worked with their teammates to build a large and a mini
robot that ERHS team members operated during live games at Washington Convention Center, where they also worked in
concert with other teams from around the country in playoff competition. The Robotics Competition began 20 years
ago in a gym in New Hampshire. Now it is an extraordinary event with the involvement of mentor engineers from
businesses around the country; elementary through high school teachers; political leaders supporting the effort
to make it available to all students; and U.S. presidents honoring the champions at the White House. Student teams
this year worked to solve LOGO MOTION, a high tech engineering challenge. Some teams developed a website, while
animation pieces were created by others. Teams built and programmed robots to accomplish tasks and score points in
a competitive game played in front of a large audience. An engineer himself, Dr. Thomas was very pleased to learn
that Mr. Martinez and Mr. Mckeown had this wonderful opportunity to be creative and collaborate with not only their
high school classmates to develop logic and problem-solving skills, but with other students from around the country,
and at the same time to be role models for their Rambler classmates by demonstrating their leadership and teamwork
abilities learned through their study of martial arts. Stay tuned for accounts from Mr. Martinez and Mr. Mckeown
about the event and for more photos!

2010 Updates from the Sanders Family
There is a boatload of talent in the Rambler family. M. and J. Sanders are no exception and, in fact, they gravitate to water
activities! M. Sanders was a member of last year's Seton High School women's rowing team and is currently training as a member
of this year's team. Her brother, J. Sanders, is a lifeguard, certified through M-NCPPC. Check out the photos below.
Ms. Sanders' first photo shows the Seton Novice Crew Team carrying the boat after their first race at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park. The
second photo is a shot of the team's final race at 2010's Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Rowing Association Championships,
which they won. Congratulations, Ms. Sanders!
Mr. Sanders provided two photos of himself working as a lifeguard in the summer of 2010.
We feel much safer with him on the job!

M. Sanders Performs in Christmas Concert at Elizabeth Seton High School
On December 10, M. Sanders performed with the Elizabeth Seton High School Symphonic Band as part of the 2010
Christmas concert series. As noted in the school newsletter (link provided below): "The spirit of Christmas
resounded in the hearts and souls of those who celebrated Christmas with Elizabeth Seton High School's music
groups. The students' exquisite performance of sacred music, traditional carols and holiday favorites was
spiritually uplifting ... " Ms. Sanders is pictured in the group photograph of the Symphonic Band, middle row,

Adult Student Role in Production of "Fashion Oz" at Howard University
Congratulations to B. Bonilla, one of Dr. Thomas' adult students, who landed the role of The Lion in Norman Cole's
Notorious Runway Productions scholarship fashion and entertainment production of "Fashion Oz" at Howard University's
Blackburn Center in Washington, DC. Mr. Bonilla is a dedicated martial arts student, and he is working diligently toward
his goals of becoming a professional actor, stuntman, and musician. His involvement in this local community production that
Mr. Coles hopes to take on the road is a positive step in that direction. In this Wiz version, Mr. Bonilla joined Auntie Em,
Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, Eviline, Eviline's helper, the Yellow Brick Road dancer, Ms. One, Glenda, and the four
Twister dancers in an inventive production enhanced by runway fashion sets with female and male models of all ages and sizes
showcasing signature collections by local designers interspersed throughout as the story advanced, bringing Dorothy and her
traveling companions through their adventures to see the Wiz. Not to worry--Dorothy was able to get home at last and she
stepped up her fashion sense along the way.

High School Graduation of K. L. Hinton, Rambler First Brown Belt
K. L. Hinton, Rambler first brown belt, graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School on Friday, June 4.
After his graduation ceremony, the Ramblers honored him and celebrated his graduation at a gathering
of Mr. Hinton's family, friends, and extended Rambler family. Held at the Bladensburg Community Center,
this event was a happy and sometimes emotional sendoff for Mr. Hinton, a focused young man who has led as
an assistant instructor, and will undoubtedly continue to lead by example as he moves forward to attend
college and works toward his goals. T. Simpson-Clement, assisted by her husband and fellow Rambler student
G. Clement, produced and showed a slide show that featured photos of Mr. Hinton's life. He took the stage
to demonstrate his martial arts skills, which many of his friends and family had not seen, in homage of his
many years with the Ramblers organization and the skills he has been privileged to learn from Dr. Thomas.
In turn, to the surprise of many of his Rambler family members, he showcased his impressive vocal talents
when he performed an a cappella selection with two of his talented high school friends. Mr. Hinton
spoke of his appreciation for everyone who has been supportive of him, particularly his parents and Dr. Thomas,
who in turn took the floor to express their pride and affection for this special young man. Congratulations
from the Rambler family for this accomplishment, Mr. Hinton, and our best wishes for your future endeavors!
