About TKD Ramblers
Our Program
Founded by Dr. Clifford Thomas in 1980, the Ramblers organization reflects the diversity of the
community, including persons with various developmental and physical disabilities. All
ages are represented in the organization, from children as young as three to senior
citizens.

Street Smarts: Saving the
Children--Who's Saving Them?
Anger Management
In today's world, aggressiveness is creating difficult and dangerous situations
for everyone. The Rambler program shows youth how to control their anger in
confrontational situations with positive approaches.
Young people face peer pressure daily that can create trouble for themselves and
others. The Rambler program shows youth how to be leaders rather than followers, how not
to be forced into negative and harmful situations, and how to stand on their own
convictions.
Preventing Child Molestation
The epidemic of child abuse is of great concern to everyone. The Rambler organization
shows youth how to recognize potential danger signs and how to react if they are
approached in an inappropriate manner.
Preventing Child Snatching
Children are particularly vulnerable and trusting of adults and authority figures. The
Rambler organization trains children to be aware of their surroundings and how to react
and respond effectively if approached by a child snatcher. Learning such skills can save
their lives.
Street Smarts for Adults
Adults become escape artists through this program. They learn practical methods of
self-protection they can use while carrying out their daily activities, including while
traveling for their jobs, during their family and leisure activities, and at home.
Street Smarts: Saving the Seniors
Senior citizens often become targets of violence and crime. Through this program, they are
educated about how to protect themselves, their homes, and their vehicles; what to look out for
on the street and how to defend themselves; and how to protect themselves from those who try to
take advantage of them.
Protection from Sexual Predators
Preventing Date Rape
Date rape is a growing problem. Individuals are trained to be aware of the many aspects to be
considered when they date or participate in social situations in which they may be negatively
pressured. They are taught “street smarts,” including prevention and self-defense methods.
Protection from Computer Predators
Sexual predators roam the Internet in search of victims. They are enabled by the numerous
social networking Internet services through which individuals provide personal information to
strangers. Individuals are taught about potential dangers and how to protect themselves against them.
Kidnapping Prevention
Children are not the only targets of kidnapping. The Rambler organization extends
its lifesaving skills to adults of all ages. Individuals are shown how not to become
victims of abductors. In the unfortunate event that an abduction occurs, Rambler students learn effective situational management and self-protection methods.
Protection from Home Invasion
Individuals are taught how to protect themselves from home invaders and other predators
who target their neighborhoods with criminal intent.
Auto Safety
Individuals are taught how to protect themselves from potential auto invasion situations.
They are given practical tips for parking lot safety in the face of the rise of assaults in
those locations.
Martial Arts and the Law
It is important for both youth and adults who study martial arts to understand their
legal rights and responsibilities in self-defense encounters, whether in home or school
situations or on the streets. This program brings together police and martial artists to
understand what is considered legally acceptable and legally excessive when a martial
artist is involved in a confrontation and applies his or her martial arts skills for
self-protection.
